One decision set us on a journey to discover the people we wanted to be. In the process, we established our core values and found a way to use our experience to help others.
Danny and Tiffany Barker needed more space. Two years earlier, we bought our first home, a one-bedroom condo. It was all we needed for our sparse belongings at the time. Then with parenthood just around the corner, we needed more. Unfortunately, we had made a huge mistake.
When we first moved to San Diego, we were in escrow for a two-bedroom condo, but we thought we could save money buying only the space we needed at that time. Nobody explained appreciation or equity, and within two years we lost out on $100,000 in equity.
Prices went up, leaving us unable to afford a home the size we needed, unlike my friend who bought a two-bedroom condo and turned his equity into a four-bedroom home.
We left San Diego for Florida, where Danny was a Navy Recruiter for three years. While there, we grossly overpaid for our home because of bad advice from our real estate agent. We spent years recovering from the damage. Afterward, we moved to North Carolina with our two young children, and life sped up.
Over a period of three years, I was deployed twice and missed out on a lot of my children's early years. Tiffany essentially handled the children, and the house while starting her business as an aesthetician, completely on her own. It was tough and quite impressive. At the end of it, we decided to go back to basics.
Fortunately, my next assignment was in Guam with my family. While there, I was able to spend several years in the same place. During those years on the island, we grew as a family. Tiffany and I dove deep into our priorities and who we wanted to be. We established our core values: acting with integrity, being respectful, and treating others the way we want to be treated. After five years in Guam, I retired from my 20-year career with the Navy, and we could choose our home. In the end, we chose San Diego.
While I had a professional background that made me an asset in many different industries, I decided to take a chance on real estate.
I became a licensed REALTOR® in June 2019, joining my brother, who had already been a licensed REALTOR® for four years. I was all fired up because I saw him serving a genuinely underserved need and putting people first. He helped homeowners renovate and repair their homes out-of-pocket, a program we still use today.
In every part of our life, we aim to lead with value. I quickly realized I needed Tiffany's help. Plus, we wanted to go on this adventure together, no more dividing and conquering.
Tiffany joined the team as a licensed agent in 2021, and we brought Kyle on officially as a licensed REALTOR® in July 2022. He is from San Diego (like me) and brings a fresh perspective with his educational background in business. Most importantly, he shares the ethos of our company. We lead with value, act with integrity, and achieve or exceed client expectations. We never want anyone left wanting like we were. We would not change our journey because it inspires who we are today and has enabled us to help so many people.
Since we have begun, we have helped many clients far more than they ever expected. One memorable client was planning to sell his home as-is but used our program to make an additional $300,000 on the sale. We are here to change lives, change this industry and build a better future together.
